Synopsis: The Orville picks up Moclan engineer Toren and his mate Korick while obtaining weapons upgrades to the ship. Bortus later discovers that the duo are smuggling their female child offworld to avoid gender “corrective” surgery or persecution. A rift emerges between Bortus and Klyden over the latter’s adherence to traditional misogynistic Moclan culture. Klyden has been teaching their son Topa that females are inferior, which angers Bortus who has a broader worldview. The bridge crew track Korick and Toren to a Moclan colony world inside a nebula inhabited by female Moclans. Their leader Heveena seeks Captain Mercer’s help in submitting her colony world’s application for Planetary Union membership. In response, the Moclan government threatens to secede from the Union, and thus deprive it of a major arms supplier. With Admiral Halsey’s tacit approval, the Orville crew, including Commander Grayson and Bortus, resist Moclan forces sent to arrest the Moclan female colonists for “child trafficking.” Admiral Halsey manages to break a deadlock at the Union council by proposing a compromise: that the Union delay the Moclan colonists’ membership application and the colony halts bringing more infants, in return for the Moclans ceasing all hostilities against the colony. While Captain Mercer is disappointed, Heveena assures the Orville crew that the female Moclan revolution has only begun, and that this small victory was the first step.
